Rest In Peace, 'Dandy Don' Meredith

The football world today mourns the passing of a terrific quarterback, a witty and wonderful broadcaster and a fine gentleman: "Dandy Don" Meredith died yesterday at the age of 72.

Meredith was one of the greatest quarterbacks in Dallas Cowboys' history, and played many times against the Browns in the last of Cleveland's glory years of the 1960s, then went on to form the folksy, down-home part of the Monday Night Football crew. His renditions of "Turn Out The Lights, the Party's Over" once a game was out of hand or decided were a treat to listen to, and he helped to broadcast many a Browns' game in those early MNF years, including the first-ever Monday night game, won by the Browns over the Jets.

Rest in peace, Dandy Don. Although the lights have been turned out for you...may your party never end.
