When I lived in Cincinnati in the late 70s, that town was the Reds' town — and it was Sparky Anderson's town through 1978.
Yes, this is a Cleveland site, but when a great figure in sports passes away, no matter where, or with what team or teams he or she was associated, it is a sad and noteworthy thing.
Sparky Anderson passed away today at the age of 76. He was the first manager to win a World Series in both leagues and he is the all-time leader in wins as manager of two different teams, with the Detroit Tigers as well as with the Reds — the only manager in history to achieve that distinction.
Rest in peace, Sparky.
